COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS OF IT STUDENTS

In the journey of youth, most information technology students do not have the right view about their future path. In this article, I would like to share my personal opinions or common mistakes that I have drawn after days of sitting in the lecture hall and walking on this path every day.

1. DO NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT JOB

There is a sad reality, especially for first-year IT students, even 2nd or 3rd year that they still don't understand what IT is and what they will do in the future. It is a normal thing that you need to do right now is to inquire about IT and the learning paths to become a programmer specializing in a certain area such as back end, front end, mobile app, etc.

During your college years, you should be serious about it. When you deepen your research, you will exploit the knowledge about what you are pursuing. Surely it will be a suitcase to help you confidently go to work after graduation.

2. WHAT LANGUAGE YOU SHOULD CHOOSE TO LEARN?

This is probably a question asked by many newcomers to the school. In the current information technology curricula, most students start to choose and study in majors after nearly 4 years, some basic majors such as Software Engineering, Computer Networking, Computer Science, and CyberSecurity (only select schools offer this major).

Therefore, in the first 1-2 years, you will learn and get acquainted with the general subjects of the typical industry, which is inevitable, which is learning to program with the C/C++ language.

3. KNOWLEDGE IN THE CLASSROOM IS ENOUGH

When you are a tech person, you always have to be responsive to technology because it changes every day. The learning textbooks at school may have been compiled a long time ago, over many generations, and that is just the basics.

Technology changes rapidly, so you have to keep up to date with technological changes, and it is not enough just to learn knowledge in school, you need to explore and learn more knowledge. At the same time, you also need to self-study and concentrate highly.

4. JUST NEED TO BE GOOD AT TECHNIQUE, EVERYTHING DOESN'T IMPORTANT

This is the thought of many students, not only IT students, who always think that as long as they have good capacity, businesses will hire them.

If you are thinking like that, you are completely wrong! In an IT environment, especially needs teamwork. There is an old saying " Together we can change the world", a member will not be able to lead a successful project to satisfy customers, but a whole non-stop works of many people.

In addition to being a technical person, you also need a lot of other soft skills that need to be learned. The student years are the best time for you to hone your soft skills. Let's join the team clubs, where you can make friends and expand your relationships, especially since it is completely free.

5. NO NEED TO LEARN MUCH, AFTER ALL THE ENTERPRISE WILL BE TRAINED

The company will certainly retrain you, but they will train you about the style, process, and working environment of their company. They will not pay to hire you and have to retrain you technically. Remember that the business hires you to do, not to train. Retraining means they have to spend money, this is why so many companies will have a requirement to have experienced candidates, simply because they do not have enough time and money to train.
